I’ve just had a sneak preview of the new TypePad native app for the iPhone. It’s simply stunning! I’m not talking about the current webbased version that can be found at http://i.typepad.com/, the new app is “native” which means it’s downloaded and stored on your iPhone.
It going to be made available free of charge via the new App Store that’s available on the iPhone 2.0 software due for release on July 11th 2008.
key features of the native app are speed and ease of use with an intuitive layout that’s clearly been designed by TypePad users that own an iPhone, not just a borrowed iPhone, but one that use have been using day in and day out for some time before they start work on the app.
It is certainly no secret that in order for an internet marketing business to succeed much less thrive it will need a great deal of traffic flowing to its website. This does, of course, raise questions as to how such a goal can be achieved. There are a number of ways traffic can be boosted and a high presence in the search engines is most definitely one of them. Here is a list of my top SEO techniques:
1. You need to research relevant keywords. That means you must seek to place keywords on sites that share similar content to yours. Additionally, one way links that lack reciprocal agreements are also quite helpful to the process of boosting search engine ranking. Read more…
Yahoo has a paid inclusion program called Yahoo Search Submit that allows advertisers put their site into the natural search results.
- Search Submit Basic – designed for small sites with low budgets. Up to 5 URLs.
- Search Submit Pro – for corporate level clients, with $5000 minimum to spend. It uses the classic pay-per-click model
Sites using Search Submit are usually allowed to get away with some cloaking and other shady stuff that would otherwise be punishable. Yahoo’s Search Submit program generally hurts Yahoo’s search results, because it forces Yahoo search technology to be more biased towards on-page criteria.
Yahoo also serves pay-per-click ads along with search results. PPC ads are on the top, bottom and on the right side. Yahoo crams up to 4 – 5 PPC ads on top, making their search engine less relevant and less information-focused. Read more…
Google may seem to own the search space these days, but Yahoo still sees a respectable amount of traffic. Unlike Google, Yahoo is a content producer as well as a search engine; additionally, they didn’t start out as an algorithm-based search engine. How does that affect it today? And what does that mean for you if you’re trying to get your site viewed by Yahoo users? Keep reading for the answers.According to Comscore stats, Yahoo holds around 20% of the search engine market share. Compete.com also supports this, giving Yahoo 19.4%. Hitwise awards Yahoo 22.55%, so it’s safe to say Yahoo holds around 20% of the search engine market share in the United States. That number differs for UK, Canada and other countries.
Yahoo Inc originally started in 1994 as a web directory by Jerry Yang and David Filo. It’s original URL resided on akebono.stanford.edu/yahoo, and the name Yahoo translated to “Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle.” After keeping up Yahoo for a bit, the founders saw business potential and attracted $3 million in investments. On March 8, 1997, Yahoo acquired Rocketmail, which became Yahoo Mail. Read more…
Your site has finally been submitted. Now what?
Since the website submissions are accepted on a first come, first served basis, you wait. The waiting period can last anywhere from one week to six long agonizing months. Whatever you do, don’t decide to resubmit your site. At best, your submission will be moved to the back of the line, where the waiting period starts all over again. At worst, your site may even be rejected for spamming.
Resist the urge to resubmit your site. While the waiting period can seem like an eternity, you simply have to wait it out. Some categories have a huge backlog of submitted sites. Others lack editors to keep up with the volume of new sites. By having carefully selected your category, you are at least certain you don’t have to worry about being in the wrong one. Read more…
Finding the Right DMOZ Directory Category
The first step to a listing, is to check the various directory categories, and find the appropriate one for your site. As you can see, there are a lot of categories, and sub-categories, and sub-sub- categories. Be very thorough here, as submitting your site to the wrong category can result in very long waits, and possibly even rejection.
Don’t be afraid to spend a little time searching through the various options. I can’t stress this enough. You have to submit to the correct category for your site. One way to ensure you are in the right one, is to search through it. Look at the other sites listed there. If you don’t see any similar sites to yours, it’s time to check out another category. If you see some of your main competitors in that section, you will know you have found the right one. The time spent searching for the proper submission category will pay off for you. You are already well on your way. Read more…
