Hartalika Teej

Teej is truly a time to rejoice and socialise, to make merry and enjoy the company of family,relatives and friends. The story we keep hearing about teej is that goddess Parvati took fast with the believe and hope to get married to lord shiva.

A devotion towards gods in belief to have a long life of their husband and to get a good husband the women observe nirjala fasting for 24 hours for the wellness of their spouse and to have a happy married life…

Generally teej is celebrated for 3 days as per Nepali calendar it take place on the 3rd day of “Shukla paksha” of saawan ,sometime around late July to early September.

1st day of teej is called as ” dar Khanay din”.this day all women assemble at one place,they do dance and sing a devotional songs…this ritual goes till mid night and next they start 24hours fasting without a single drops of water…

2nd day women do fast without a morsel of food and without drinking waters but some of the women eat fruits as a means of energy so that they could dance whole day….this day women wear red saree,bangles and a long green pote and visit a nearby shiva temple.they offers flower,fruits n coin to the statue of lingam.the main part of this puja is oillamp which has to be alight throughout the whole nite…

3rd day is rishi panchami..this day women take bath with a red mud found on the roots of datiwan bush..it make us to believe that it tooks all the sins away and make us pure…
