ओलम्पिक खेल अन्तरराष्ट्रिय स्तरमा आयोजना गरिने बिभिन्न खेलहरुको प्रतियोगिता हो । आधुनिक ओलम्पिक खेलको सुरुवात ग्रिसको आथेनमा सन १८९६मा गरिएको थियो ।
ओलम्पिक खेल प्रतेक चारवर्षमा हुने गर्दछ । यस अघि सन २००८ सालमा चिनको बेजिङ्गमा आयोजना गरिएको थियो । यस वर्ष अर्थात २०१२ सालको ओलम्पिक खेल बेलायतको राजधानी लण्डनमा यही जुलाइ र अगस्तमा हुन गैरहेको छ ।
“ओलम्पिक” नाम परा पूर्बकालीन ग्रीस भाषाबाट आएको हो । यसले नाम “ओलम्पिक खेल” भनी ओलम्पिक खेलका लागि गठित अन्तरराष्ट्रिय ओलम्पिक कमिटीले राखेको हो । “ओलम्पिक” नाम ग्रिसको दक्षिण पश्चिममा रहेको अर्धटापु पेलेओपोनेशको ओलम्पिया भन्ने स्थानमा सर्व प्रथम खेल प्रतिस्पर्धा गराइएकोले यसको नाम “ओलम्पिक प्रतिस्पर्धा” भनि राखिएको थियो ।

सन १८९६ देखि सुरु भएको ओलम्पिक खेल हरेक चार बर्षमा हुने गर्दछ र सन १९२४ देखि जाडोको मौसममा पनि ओलम्पिक खेलाउन थालियो । अन्तरराष्ट्रिय ओलम्पिक कमिटीले सन १९६० देखि शारिरीक अपाँगहरुलाइ पनि खेल मैदानको प्रतिस्पर्धामा उता¥यो । १९७६ देखि खेलाइने शारिरीक अपाँगहरुको खेललाइ “प्याराओलम्पिक खेल” भनेर नामाकरण गरियो । यसरी गर्मी मौसम र जाडो मौसममा हरेक दुइ दुइ वर्षमा प्याराओलम्पिक खेल हुन थाल्यो । Read more…

The nearly universal reaction to seeing Google’s playable 30th anniversary Pac-Man doodle was, “Well, there goes Friday.” Indeed. A productivity firm has calculated the time spent playing Google’s Pac-Man front at more than 4.8 million hours.

RescueTime, makers of productivity tracking and optimization software, looked at the average time that 11,000 of its users spent on Google’s pages on Friday and found it more than quadrupled. Normally they spend 11 seconds on a Google page, but on Friday they spent 45.

Google page visit time is very low, of course, because people find whatever they need very quickly and usually hit a link on the first page of results. To triple the time spent on a Google page means something else is going on, and in this case, it was chompin’ dots.

So what? Just 45 seconds, right? Well, Google also did more than 500 million pageviews on Friday. So RescueTime, assuming its user base was representative (and 11,000 is a damn good sample size), ran some numbers and came up with: Read more…

I still love the old DOS games that I played almost 5-6 years ago. Two of my favorites PC games were Stargunner and Digger. Those were in fact, the first ones that I had played. Last weekend I was searching for information and utilities which would let me play those games with complete sound and graphics, again. [Most of those old games were later released as Freewares with FULL episodes and that's why I was looking for such an application]. My search yielded positive results, and I found DOSBox, which not only lets you run old DOS computer games but any DOS application. Read more…
