Why Should we use a PHP Framework?

February 9th, 2010 Ashesh No comments

Developers should utilize PHP frameworks for various reasons, but the number one reason is for speeding up the development process. Reusing code across similar projects will save the developer a substantial amount of time and effort. A framework offers pre-built modules for performing tedious coding tasks, so the developer can spend their time on developing the actual application rather than re-building the foundation with each and every project.

Stability is another big reason developers are utilizing frameworks. While simplicity is one of PHP’s greatest assets, and the reason many people prefer to use this scripting language, it can also be one of its biggest downfalls. It’s fairly easy, especially for beginners, to write bad code and not even realize it. With PHP the application will often times still work, but unknowingly you may have opened up a large security hole in your coding that may be susceptible to attacks. It’s important to remember that PHP is a very forgiving language, so it’s even more important to make sure to tie up any loose ends in your coding – even if the application seems to be working properly. What is a PHP Framework?

February 9th, 2010 Ashesh No comments

PHP is the world’s most popular scripting language for many different reasons – flexibility, ease-of-use, among others – but often times coding in PHP, or any language for that matter, can get rather monotonous and repetitive. That’s where a PHP framework can help.

PHP frameworks streamline the the development of web applications written in PHP by providing a basic structure for which to build the web applications. In other words, PHP frameworks help to promote rapid application development (RAD), which saves you time, helps build more stable applications, and reduces the amount of repetitive coding for developers. Frameworks can also help beginners to build more stable apps by ensuring proper database interaction and coding on the presentation layer. This allows you to spend more time creating the actual web application, instead of spending time writing repetitive code. Read more…

Facebook Toolbar Speaks New Languages

January 29th, 2010 Ashesh 2 comments

No matter where you are on the web, you can stay close and share with your friends through the Facebook Toolbar. Originally launched in English for the Firefox browser, we now have released an Internet Explorer version of the toolbar and made both versions available in a total of 16 languages.

You can use the toolbar to easily visit the most common sections and applications on Facebook, including your home page, profile and Inbox. You also can see how many friend requests, Inbox message and event and group invitations you have from icons near the top of your browser, and then click to view them.

When you find an interesting news story, funny video or other content you like on the web, click the “Share” button on the toolbar to share it with your friends on your Facebook. The toolbar even gives you a quick way to upload photos to your profile.

The languages now supported are Arabic, Chinese (simple and traditional), Danish, Dutch, German, Spanish (Spain and international), French, Hebrew, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazilian), Swedish and Turkish. You can download the latest Facebook Toolbar for Firefox or Internet Explorer here.

Typepad for iPhone is stunning

January 28th, 2010 Ashesh No comments

I’ve just had a sneak preview of the new TypePad native app for the iPhone. It’s simply stunning! I’m not talking about the current webbased version that can be found at http://i.typepad.com/, the new app is “native” which means it’s downloaded and stored on your iPhone.

It going to be made available free of charge via the new App Store that’s available on the iPhone 2.0 software due for release on July 11th 2008.

key features of the native app are speed and ease of use with an intuitive layout that’s clearly been designed by TypePad users that own an iPhone, not just a borrowed iPhone, but one that use have been using day in and day out for some time before they start work on the app.
