13-year-old boy becomes youngest climber to stand on peak of Mount Everest

May 24th, 2010 2 comments

A 13-year-old California boy plans to try to climb Mount Everest in a quest to reach the summits of the highest peaks on all seven continents.

If Jordan Romero succeeds, he’ll become the youngest person to conquer the world’s highest mountain.

Jordan will attempt the ascent to 29,035 feet with his father and his father’s girlfriend, both experienced outdoors people who have helped train the teenager for top-level mountaineering.

When Jordan was only 9, a school mural of the seven summits inspired his ambitious goal.

“I told my dad about it and he didn’t say no. He just explained the difficulties and what I’d have to do. We started training right away,” said Jordan, who was scheduled to depart for Nepal Monday night.

At age 10, he became the youngest American to summit Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. He’s steadily checked off four of the tallest peaks since then, including Alaska’s Mount McKinley, which many climbers consider to be a more technical climb than Everest. Read more…

Lewis Pugh – swims Mount Everest glacial lake

May 24th, 2010 No comments

Environmentalist Lewis Pugh, 40, wore just trunks, goggles and a swimming hat to swim 1km (0.62 miles) across Pumori Lake. The icy lake lies 17,000ft (5,300m) up the famous mountain near the Khumbu Glacier and its waters are around just 2C.

Lewis took 22 minutes and 51 seconds to breast stroke across the lake and had to find a “delicate balance” between going too fast and too slowly.

He says if he had gone too quick he could have lost energy and drowned but if he had been too slow he would have suffered hypothermia. Read more…

Nepali Calendar

Finally Nepali Calendar is now completed. Nepali calendar can display any nepali month calendar from 1970 B.S to 2100 B.S in both Nepali and English dates on it.

I have included some features in calender, Events in any dates can be seen by hovering mouse on it, Public holiday is marked by red font, current date is highlighted by mild black shadow background, Events on the day can be seen on end of calendar, Famous people birthday are displayed in the end of calendar.

If you have webpage then you can have this nepali calendar on your page. You can put this in wordpress sidebar as plugin too.

I have done lots of test and trial and value are directly taken from date and time function so, I’m confident that the result calendar is accurate.

Thank you everyone who suggest and inspired me to make this calendar.
